“Mischling” – The Testimony of Judy Rosenberg
Juni 7 @ 10:00kostenlos
The film consists mainly of an interview which the director, Jason Oberlander, conducted with his grandmother, Judy Rosenberg.
From 1940, Judy (Judith Hirsch, b. 1927) lived with her parents in Munich, where her father worked as a caretaker at the Jewish Hospital. Because he was Jewish, Judy was categorised by the Nazis as being of mixed race. At the age of fourteen, she had to leave her school and began training as a housekeeper at the Jewish children’s home in Antonienstraße.
In the interview with her grandson, Judy Rosenberg describes how Munich’s Jews were persecuted and later deported. Judy’s uncle, the well-known footballer Julius Hirsch, who lived in Karlsruhe, was murdered in Auschwitz in 1943. Judy herself was forced to move with her parents to the “Jewish camp” in Berg am Laim in 1942 and had to do forced labour in the Lohhof flax retting pit. Shortly before the end of the war, the Gestapo deported Judy and her father to Theresienstadt.
After the film, there will be an opportunity for a discussion with Judy Rosenberg and Jason Oberlander.
The film and the discussion will be in English.
